The project Cadzand-Maritiem combines the improvements of the primary flood defense with the construction af a marina and an upgrade of the public spaces. The flood defense system consist of areas with more natural flood defenses (dunes strengthened by foreshore nourishment) and areas with dikes and breakwaters. The type of flood defense is selected based on the specific requirements of each location. Two new breakwaters give shelter to the new marina and are part of the flood defense system at the same time. In addition, the public space in the project area is also reconstructed improving the overall appearance of the beach and nearby village.
