Westpoort is the major part of the port area of Amsterdam. The port area includes the Sloter dikes and contains a lot of infrastructure and functions, which are of great importance to the Amsterdam metropolitan region. Westpoort is protected against coastal floods by the seawall at IJmuiden, and against river floods by the levees along the Lek River and the IJssel Lake. Through chain effects, the possible flooding of Westpoort causes damage and disruption that will be felt throughout the region.
To underpin the meteorological effects of floods, extreme weather, droughts and heat stress, a climate stress test is invoked. And what consequences interface the chain effects with the Amsterdam metropolitan region. With the aim to jointly explore how to give substance to a specific area to combine implementation of water resilience and adaptation to climate change.
